Goals

So, my intentions were good. I was *going* to join the gym today with my friend. I was jazzed at work all day about finally signing up for the gym because let's face it, it sort of is a sucky idea...so I had to pump myself up a little. I got a call from her that she was hoping her insurance would pay for it, and she needed paperwork, bla bla. Short story is...I'm not joining the gym tonight.

I have set three goals for myself before I move. These three goals are near and dear to my heart and not too overwhelmingly unmanageable in my opinion. 1. Finish school. 2. Quit Smoking. 3. Drop some pounds.

Not too bad of a list I think. Number 1 is just going to take time and patience. Numbers 2 and 3 are going to take a bit more. And it's all intertwined. Like, the gym will cost me money, which worries me with a move looming over my head. But, I would save so much money if I quit smoking that it should't be a problem. I think I have to do them simultaneously...the quitting smoking and joining a gym part.

Then, I rationalize with myself. It's the holidays...I have stress...I can't quit smoking now. Why is it so blasted hard to quit smoking? So today, I've only had about 5, and I'm not buying another pack tonight. I'll see how I feel tomorrow...or maybe in the next hour.

  1. Dangerdo - Here is my bit of advice on goal setting. Write them down, have someone to be accountable to, have a gameplan, and just DO IT with no excuses! I just started a workout plan yesterday with a bet attached to it, so I know how you feel. Try out www.freetrainers.com. It's free and can give you a workout plan to do at home if you don't want to spend money on a gym membership. I know you can do it! Good luck and keep us posted on your results! ~Munchkin

  2. Munchkin,

I'm just now seeing all of your comments. Thank you for taking the time to write to me, and even to "follow" me.

Tonight I looked at gym memberships again, and I'm setting the alarm early to have time to join and hit a class! I'm just going for it!

  3. I had the same problem with hitting the gym. The way I bet it (ahem, my willpower issue) is that I signed up for an aerobic class at CCSF. I bet you qualify for the BOG (which means they pay for your tuition) and even if you don't, it's just like $30 for the whole semester. Cheaper than a gym membership, I think.

They have this class where you sign up and then you get to go use their new gym whenever you want. You just *have* to go a certain number of times throughout the semester to get a passing grade.

It's got a neat system that you log into and it tells you how much you've worked on a daily basis, and throughout the whole time. And, you get your monthly progress emailed to you!

    You might like it.
Let's talk more about it on Tuesday if you want.
